From a survey conducted on dating sites, I asked men about their feminine ideal, specifically in terms of physical appearance. From their responses, I have designed a series of photographic portraits where these fantasies take shape — or rather, freeze — through latex masks inspired by their descriptions. The mask becomes here the vector of a projection: that of a normative ideal, often stereotyped, which one can literally put on. By embodying these dreamy, artificial, almost plastic faces, the series questions the factory of male desire, the collective imagination of the “ideal woman” and what it reveals about our visual culture. The latex mask, material of transformation, underlines the gap between the individual and the image, between the human and the fantasy.
